Hunt Construction Group Continues To Expand Its Sports Venue Portfolio
DALLAS, TEXAS - Hunt Construction Group's Southern Regional Office has been awarded the $27 million contract to serve as the Construction Management Agent for the Youngstown Convocation Center project in Youngstown, Ohio. Hunt Construction Group will directly manage the subcontractors for the City of Youngstown and hold all subcontract agreements.
The minor league hockey arena will consist of 160,000 square feet and 5,500-seats for the Central Hockey League. The developer is International Coliseum Corporation, a subsidiary of Global Entertainment. The project broke ground on June 22, 2004, and is slated to be complete and operational in October of 2005.
Hunt Construction Group is the nation's premier builder in the construction of landmark sports venues. Overall, Hunt has built arenas, stadiums, and multipurpose venues totaling over $8 billion in construction across North America. Since our humble beginnings in 1944, Hunt has been a trailblazer in sports venue construction. Milestones we've set include the world-renowned Louisiana Superdome, built in 1971; Syracuse University's Carrier Dome, the first fabric-domed stadium in the United States; built in 1980; Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, the world's first retractable-roof stadium with a natural grass playing field, completed in 1998; and the new University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, the first retractable-roof and field stadium scheduled for opening in 2006. Appearing on Hunt's own sports venue highlight reel are four retractable roof stadiums out of the six that have been built in the U.S., 10 NHL arenas, 12 NFL stadiums, 13 Major League Baseball stadiums, and 12 NBA and WNBA arenas. In all, Hunt has built 82 sports venues ranging from major league to minor league to the collegiate level, with total seating for more than 2.5 million spectators.
