Hunt Construction Group and joint venture partner Walton Construction awarded the Kauffman Stadium project in Kansas City, Missouri
On Thursday, April 5, The Kansas City Royals, in conjunction with the Jackson County Sports Authority, the Office of Jackson County and the Jackson County Legislature, announced their selection of Hunt Construction Group and Walton Construction Company of Kansas City, MO (Hunt-Walton, A Joint Venture) as construction managers for the $250 million renovation of Kauffman Stadium. The renovation and expansion will help bring Kauffman Stadium into the 21st century while maintaining the same classic appearance fans have come to know and love.
Hunt Construction Group has been offering construction services around the country since 1944. Ranked #1 in sports construction by Engineering News-Record, Hunt is no stranger to sports construction, and there are over 90 Hunt-built sports facilities around the Nation, 15 of which are Major-League Baseball facilities. Most recently, Hunt completed work on New Busch Stadium in St. Louis, MO, home of the St. Louis Cardinals. Other MLB facilities include AT&T Park (San Francisco Giants), Chase Field (Arizona Diamondbacks), Cinergy Field (former home of the Cincinnati Reds), Citizens Bank Park (Philadelphia Phillies), Comerica Park (Detroit Tigers), Dolphin Stadium (Florida Marlins), Great American Ball Park (Cincinnati Reds), Jacobs Field (Cleveland Indians), Miller Park (Milwaukee Brewers), Safeco Field (Seattle Mariners), Three Rivers Stadium (former home of the Pittsburgh Pirates) and Tropicana Field (Tampa Bay Devil Rays). Additionally, Hunt is currently working with the Washington Nationals and New York Mets on their new homes, New DC Ballpark and Citi Field.
Preconstruction for the Kauffman Stadium expansion and renovation is underway with construction set to begin at the conclusion of the Royals' 2007 season. Completion is scheduled for July of 2009.
