Hunt-Walton Complete Kauffman Stadium Renovation PDF Print E-mail
Kauffman StadiumKansas City, MO, April 30, 2009 – Hunt Construction Group in a joint venture with Walton Construction (Hunt-Walton), recently finished substantial completion on the Kauffman stadium renovations - home of the Kansas City Royals.

After hosting several playoff games, seven World Series tilts (1980 and 1985), and an All-Star Game (1973), Kauffman Stadium welcomed in the 2009 season with a fresh new look. Hunt-Walton started work on the $220 million renovation project in October 2007.

The fast-track project consisted of redoing the crown scoreboard, the addition of an administrative building, broadcast booths and writing press and dining rooms. It also included renovations of suites, expanded concourses, more restrooms and concessions and a new outfield experience. The Hunt-Walton team approached the project under a seven-phase schedule to work around the Royals’ schedule. This included milestones such as the 2008 and 2009 openings days as well as the 2008 All-Star Break.

With over 1,000 workers on the site every day for six months, putting in more than two million man-hours, the project moved quickly. The 2009 opening day game really showed off the hard work of the entire team. Most notably, the huge high-definition scoreboard complete with the classic gold crown will allow fans to quickly catch important information without missing any of the game.

One highlight that took place during the renovation was the Strategic Partnership Program Hunt-Walton signed with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The partnership is designed to promote and recognize jobsites like Kauffman Stadium that have demonstrated an effective safety and health program. The team is proud to be part of such an important partnership promoting safety in Kansas City.

Thanks to the cooperation between the project team and the Kansas City Royals, Kauffman Stadium is essentially complete, almost a year ahead of the originally planned April 2010 schedule. Hunt Project Executive, Patrick Delano added, “In order to meet the intense schedule, we had to have a great team effort. Everyone on the project did just that, including the owner and architect. My hat goes off to every member of the Hunt-Walton team for their exemplary efforts.” With the many improvements designed to enhance the fan experience, Hunt-Walton is confident fans are in for a season unlike any other.
